Someone with a R by their name but isn’t realty a Republican or strong conservative?
Who are some examples?

Spends like a Democrat and expands the power/reach of fedgov because in principle, he believes in big government.
McConnell
Thune
Trump

Romney is the prime example. Haley is another.

RINO examples:
Mitch McConnell
Lindsey Graham
Liz Cheney
Susan Collins
Francis Thompson
John Alario
Monique Blanco Boulet (Her mom was a Democrat, but more small government conservative than her.)
I think the jury could be out on Donald Trump. Let's see how his hopeful 2nd term goes.

My only problem with RINO is that you must consider the state they're serving. If you're a GOP rep from NY or Calif then you must be a RINO or you would never have been elected.
Liz Cheney is a real RINO because Wyoming is not a deep blue state.

USED to be... Traditionally.
Now it's anyone that doesn't agree 100% with Trump. Even though there is nothing Conservative or Rep. about Trump.
If you aren't a Commie Dictator loving, kool-aid drinking, hate spewing Trump Trooper, then you are a Rhino..
In today's world, Ronald Reagan & Pat Buchanan would be considered Rhino's..

Romney, Murkowski, Paul Ryan, McConnell are some that come to mind

Mitt Romney, John McCain, Lindsey Graham, John Cornyn, Mitch McConnel, Roger Wicker, John Boozman, Bill Cassidy(he's really a slimy libtard), Lisa Murkowski, John Thune, Thom Tillis, Dan Crenshaw, etc. etc. etc.
It's whatever label you give an elected official that gets to Washington and then completely shits on their constituents and only works to enrich themselves and maintain power.

Republican In Name Only
Those that claim conservative beliefs but don't follow them. Think about claiming to be fiscally conservative, yet voting to spend 80B to Ukraine

Another name in modern politics to blame throw or throw shade on somebody else instead of strong fiscal policy of your own.
Apparently if you have no plan you just shout
Libtard
Rhino
Tran
Brown
or some such till the other guy is the bad guy, even if he is not.

A RINO is one who, if charged in court with being a Republican, would be acquitted for lack of evidence.
They may talk the talk, but by their fruits you will know them.

It's amazing how so many of the names in this thread being mentioned as RINOs are actually the closest thing to Buckley classic conservatives and Reagan Republicans.
RINO has just become part of the greater Trump fealty test. Either a Republican member of Congress thinks that Trump is the greatest thing ever and never pushes back against Trump or they are a RINO and part of the Swamp or whatever other boogeyman Trump throws out there to corral his cult and convince his cult that greater sinister forces are out to destory them.

Anytime this subject comes up, I’ve come to ask what lasting/notable Republican/conservative achievements did the GOP gain for America and Americans in the 2 to 3 decades prior to Trump coming down the escalator?
20 to 30 years is not a small sample size so there should be some things easily pointed to/reminded as good examples.
If there are such examples then why did the GOP fail so badly in communicating those Republican/conservative achievements to the public?
I think ultimately the GOP has only itself to thank. If a significant chunk of the GOP base had been happy with the country’s progress under leaders like Bush, McCain, Romney, etc. then Trump/populism probably wouldn’t have been able to gain the foothold it did.
ETA - And my viewpoint on this always earns a few downvotes but to date, no one can ever tell me why my viewpoint is incorrect.

Democrat currently. Anyone that is beholden to the party in charge. These people have no underlying principles. They just exist to serve the machine.
The main issue in our government today is that the current crop of Democrats don't move. In the past they were exactly like the RINO's of today.
If we had an actual Republican party that existed like the Democrats currently do we wouldn't have the bullshite we see on a daily basis. I would argue the RINO's are more of a threat to the country than the Democrats. At least the Democrats are honest about who they are and the stupid shite they are pushing.
RINO's are giving you the illusion of an opponent.

Someone who favors exactly the same foreign policy tone and actions as Trump, but who isn't Trump.
Anybody else is "trying to start WWIII for profit," but Trump is looking out for the best interests of the American people. 'Cause, you know...he's all selfless like that.

Rockefeller Republicans. Their goal is to protect their personal megamillions, their megabillion companies, and their power. They talk conservative values for the votes.
