Why should a pop up in the infield be a double play

they'd still have to execute the double play - why not make them finish the play their player hit into?

Could be interesting - make it a play that the defense has to execute properly to get the 'double play' - or screw up and give up the 'out.'

It turns just makes for one more ho-hum no-action play on the field.

Let 'em play what they hit into.

There are some times where it could be dicey to get the double play - and in trying it, there is a chance you could screw it up and get nobody out. === Makes the game more exciting.

Fair enough. Somewhat like dropping a fly ball in foul territory in the outfield with a runner on 3rd and less than 2 outs to avoid the tag up, hoping for a better outcome on the next pitch.
