What is the vision issue? Inherited retinal disease that has been diagnosed?

Honestly not 100% sure. Because of this risk I go to a vision specialist each year (which is terrible since I can’t stand anything touching my eyes) and so far nothing bad has come up. I keep expecting to get the bad news any year now.

I’m also concerned because I’m in my late 30’s and I know that can cause complications. Part of me would much rather use the speed of a man in their mid to late 20’s who is in his prime. Silly maybe but stuff I’ve thought about.

I assume you are seeing a retina and vitreous specialist and hopefully one that has a special interest in inherited retinal diseases.

Only if the wife is in her late 30's. Not the male. I would adopt if I were you.

You don’t even know the name of retinal disease? That means that you have zero understanding of your probability of passing it on. IVF clinics now have the ability to screen embryos for 100s of diseases at this point.

If you and your wife were both carriers for cystic fibrosis, you could use IVF to test the embryos and select one without the disease. That can be done for many, many diseases. If this bothers you so much that you are considering using someone else’s sperm, you should at least find out the name of the eye disease and determine if it can be screened out.
