They check twice. They write their score down and their opponents. After they swap scorecards to check if the scores they write match what their opponent wrote. Then they hand it to the tournament official who reads the scores hole by hole. They nod. Sign and leave. There is literally two failproof methods. And they still do it. But it mainly happens after a bad round or bad last hole. Spieth doubled 18.
