Sure, this is fair. But just with Tom Bombadil in LOTRS or Clancy spending two pages explaining how to scrub a cast iron pan in Hunt, authors do this to add richness to the narrative. The problem then becomes what to put in and leave out as a film maker. Tom Bombadil means absolutely nothing to thr overall LOTR narrative, except to build a world in the mind of the reader or spout some mystic saying that gains meaning later in the story. This story of Dune is about the Beni Geserat. That is its focus.
