I 100% agree with this. The film is absolutely brilliant but the ending, though a visual marvel, is a bit anticlimactic. Also, as someone who has not read Dune, I missed a few things because of how rushed they were. I went back after the film and read the plot of Dune and noticed I missed some things that were there in the film, but just hard to grasp because of how much had to be packed in.
All that said, it was so good. Denis Villeneuve is on my list of directors that if they make a film, I go see it, no questions asked. However, I hope after this he gets away from the sci-fi genre for a bit. He is capable of making great films in other genres. I wouldn’t want to miss out on the next Sicario because DV got pigeonholed in genre films.
