I process upward of 1,000 sales on eBay a year.
You simply request a return. The seller can grant it within a time frame or give you a deal that you mutually agree on. If the seller does not make it right then eBay will proceed with the return after 5 days.

Thanks for that information. One time I bought an item off Mercari with an issue and the seller told me to just keep the item and they would refund me, but I still made sure to send it back to them. I thought that was nice of them to offer that though.

I especially hate to ask for a return from an individual seller rather than say some huge business. I imagine individual sellers are often trying to get money quickly out of need. At least that's the case when I sell things.

I went ahead and requested a return and it looks like the seller is going to fight me over it. They are already saying it had no smell or scent when they sent it. It's one thing if they want to say no refunds, but I'm not making up my issue. And it's definitely not from end. It was immediately noticeable upon opening. I wanted to use these headphones.

So this should be fun.
