Never bought from the "shrimp lady" but some tricks of the roadside vendors

1) They keep lots of slushy ice water in the chest with the shrimp at the bottom, they keep some large "shower" shrimp in the back and when you walk up they pull some of those shrimp up and show em to you, then when you buy they pull them from a different part of the cooler and they are smaller

2) watch their hands when they are weighing they will "hold" the scale to keep it from turning and they are pressing down on the scale

3)Do a bleach rinse (be care full lots of markets do this as well)

4) make em prove the count, if they say they are 10/14, count out 14 shrimp and they should be a pound or better

The best, freshest shrimp in town are sold on Airline at Tom Drive, just some lady out there with a sign that says Shrimp - she is only out there on Thurs, Fri and Sat, and when she runs out, she's closed for the day. She has the best prices and the freshest shrimp. She only takes cash. Jumbos are usually $4-4.50 per pound.

Ive gone to her 3 or 4 times and they are divine
