About 10 years ago, I broke my leg in a fall- badly. It took a few surgeries and more than a dozen screws to get it straitened back out. I was on crutches for almost 3 months.
During that time I got to encounter many great people who would go out of their way to hold a door or give a hand, and a few very ugly folks.
A woman that had to weigh 400 pounds ran around me to get to the last motorized shopping buggy at a grocery store. Several people shamed her, she ended up offering it back to me. I looked her up and down and told her she needed it more than I did.
I also had an African grab a door with both hands at a gas station and slam it back on me for the fun of it I suppose. Laughing as he jogged to his car.
Joke was on him as a man and a young woman that didn't know each other or me were trying to rip that dude back out of his car, screaming and kicking it as he sped off.
Those few months gave me a different perspective, but overall most people are good.

I went to Harbor Freight yesterday and a Corvette pulled into the handicapped spot. I didn't stick around to watch the person get out but I can only assume that you cant be THAT handicapped if you can get into and out of a Corvette

I recall getting the stinkeye from people when getting out of my vehicle with a handicapped tag. When I opened the wheelchair lift and loaded my wheelchair bound son in, I wanted to say, “Is this handicapped enough for you?”

Easy Scuttle, you maybe next. I had the same gripe till my partner was diagnosed with Parkinson’s, some days are better than others. Just take the high road.

It affects my mood knowing that people like that haven't been purged from society. They're even worse than the shitstains that leave their shopping carts in the parking lot. In fact, anyone who does it probably leaves their cart in the fricking handicap spot.
It’s far worse than you think.
Most of the fakers sit at home on disability collecting benefits.
Don’t believe me? Check out our labor participation rate.

Beat him to a pulp, he struck me first, got it all on security video.

I'm 37, have cerebral palsy and use a power chair. I get frustrated when I see people that look able bodied and have handicap plates park in handicap spots or people that look able bodied using the ADA stall in a Men's Room. There are "hidden" or unrecognizable disabilities so I have to be careful when getting frustrated.

And? Are you denying that handicap tag abuse is rampant?
Does it happen?
I’m sure.
Is it rampant?
I don’t think so.

Nobody, and I mean No fricking Body, gets indignant like a female who gets caught using a handicap-tag even though they are 100% healthy.
I don't know. Kinda looks like at least one somebody does.

I hope I'm wrong about this, but I'm guessing people with diabetes are able to get tags in today's America.
In the 80s, my parents had to wait 2 years to get approved for a tag and my mom could hardly walk without assistance

While this is true. Any handicap that would require handicap parking is visible.
You have no idea what you’re talking about.

7% of Americans report having serious ambulatory difficulties – struggling with walking or climbing stairs. 100% of handicap spots are occupied all the time. Not sure how the math works out there, but it feels a bit rampant.

I don't condone this but there are waaaay too many handicap spots. You'd think 30% of people are handicapped looking at some parking lots. Those spots are rarely more than 10% filled.

I've always said that a local news crew should just sit in the parking lot at a Wal-Mart and film the people who park in the handicap spots. Maybe stick a mic in their face and ask them about their disability. That would be great TV.
It’d also be a great lawsuit.

When I catch them I make sure that handicap tag means something before I'm done with them.
Oh, bullshite.

Yeah my step mom does this and it’s BS. Not all the time but if they’re somewhere and it’s super busy and little parking she’ll bring it out. I attribute it to growing up in a wealthier family (and maintaining it)and is used to getting what she wants.

I hate it when you are in a conveint paeking space and the driver that wants that space tells you to hurry up. They don't tell you to hurry up in public but while they are behind the wheel of their car. I put my bags in the car, smile at them and then I walk back to the store and reenter the store.

If you load your car and leave, we cool.
If you load your car, start it, then sit there for 1/2 hour while you text on your phone, you are a dick.
Dude did that in a handicapped space to me and was laughing but I just called a Po Po friend and they ticketed him (minimum 500 fine + court cost) so I guess I got the last laugh. Had been in the hospital in traction for two weeks before I got the temp tag while I was recovering but I did need it. When doc cleared me I called DoT and told them to cancel it.
