Not bad at all. If your kid is relatively in shape and active often, that shouldn't necessarily be a surprise. No reason to make them train specifically in running. A lot of kids his age will likely be doing team sports, especially soccer.
Have you considered putting him in that? My cousin ran against a kid who never ran track until his senior year of HS but did soccer year round all his life. Ended up running in the HS mile at the Millrose Games years ago and run 4:09 in one of his first few races. Dude was a heck of a soccer player supposedly but ended up doing track in college for a bit.

He’s been in baseball since he was 5 and recently started basketball. Never done soccer, but maybe he should try it out.
