He was. I would assume he is talking about the start of the spring. Brown has struck out much more this spring than he did in the fall, but I still think he will hit. Have to remember this is a heavy LHP staff and Brown and Larson are both LHH. That makes it tough.

Maybe someone who has attended multiple scrimmages can answer this, I have Larson as only striking out 2 times in 16 PA. Is he hitting the ball consistently hard and just to people or is it more of a contact swing that isn't hit very hard?

Brown is a guy that just puts together consistent ABs. You have to see in person to appreciate. A small sample size of numbers won’t tell the whole story. Sees pitches, hits the other way, has power. Can really run for a guy his size.

Larson on the other hand is kind of hot & cold. His physicality as a freshman really stands out. His highs are really impressive.

I think we are kinda staring down a platoon thing with Frey & some of these LH. Whether it’s Neal, or Brown, or if Larson comes on. & if he hits consistently, could definitely take someone’s job full time

Brown hit .321 in the fall. Frey hit .250. Jones hit .241 and Larson hit .204. Jones, Larson, and Frey did more damage than Brown, though.

Fall Baseball Cumulative Stats

I think Larson and Brown only have a few hits in the spring so far. Jones may have 1. Frey is hot right now.

Frey has looked most impressive of the 4. He’s moving well and has had a great approach especially with 2 strikes where I’ve seen him get 3 of his hits to the opposite field.

Agree. Frey's performance so far in the fall should have him on the cusp of getting some early opportunities to repeat it in game situations IMO.

His second K was on a swing and miss FB. His last AB, he swung and missed a piped 2-0 FB before reaching out for one on the next pitch for an easy fly to center.

This is almost a bigger problem. If you are going to be a boom or bust power hitter, you can't be whiffing on 2-0 fastballs.

Frey had 4 of the 8 hardest hit balls in the fall.

But was just 4th in avg exit velocity. Which isn’t bad, just tells me his contact has been inconsistent.

I like that Milam and Nippolt are showing a pulse. Infield depth is important. We have had hardly any for years.

Still curious who SS2 is. Nippolt is the safe bet but Milam has been getting a ton of reps there.

I still wish we had more. Good thing Dugas and Pearson were able to make those moves the last two years.

Kuch got the look last night with Milam at 2B and Nippolt at 3B. I think today, Nippolt is 2B2, 3B2, and SS2.

Yea I agree, Nippolt is 1st off the bench at each spot. SS is prob his weakest spot I think

Jay has force fed Milam at 2B and SS, and it seems to be paying off.

Neither Nippolt nor Milam had high averages in the fall but they put the ball in play. They seem to be finding holes now.

Milam switch hits, which is an added asset for him. Jay has paired him with Pearson and Braswell recently, and hit him up in the order yesterday. I think he's going to be a good one, just not sure where yet.

I'm sure the guys from the fall have been compiling them and will post after the scrimmages finish up next weekend.

If there is anything specific you want to know I can possibly answer you. I keep them based on Scubas reports. I don't think it is necessary to post them all as it is still pretty limited sample size.

I will likely post spring scrimmage stats and maybe even put the fall and spring together to get a bigger sample size leading into opening weekend.
