Scam? Probably not. Practical for many tasks. No.

If you just commute a short distance to work and home, probably fine.

I'm sure they are fine for some people. For me, it's attempting to fix a problem that I didn't know I had.

It’s a scam to say an ev gets a made up mpg so they pass government compliance measures.

This all has to do with government.

Take vaccines. If Joe Biden doesn’t try to ram them through OSHA, the push back isn’t as big.

Exactly. I bought an EV because I never drive my car more than 150 miles before returning to my garage. If I ever need to go farther I’ll use my wife’s car. Also, besides having the perfect mission profile, I have a two car garage with two 240V 50 receptacles and I don’t care that it is so expensive. If any of those things weren’t true I would not get an EV.

Another thing: the range on an EV is really a lot less than they say. You have to be more conservative about running low because you don’t have as many recharge options as ICE vehicles. And if you want to take proper care of that expensive battery you should not charge it over 80%. I would be afraid to go below 10% and I charge to 80%, so I actually only have 70% of my 290 mile range available - that’s 203 miles.
