Emotional cheating is when you start talking to someone behind your significant other’s back about personal stuff that you would normally tell your SO. This is beyond just going ti your buddies for advice. Basically, it’s treating another woman (if you’re a guy) or guy (if you’re a woman) like your significant other. This often happens with a “work wife/husband” just because of the close proximity for large stretches of the day.
If everything is out in the open, everyone’s SO’s are in the loop, and there’s no real romantic flirting or undertones, then it’s just a harmless friendship.
However, if things are being kept from SO’s purposely and there’s heavy flirting, it might be emotional cheating even if there’s never been any actual kissing or intercourse.
Basically, if you feel you have to hide what’s going on from your SO, it’s probably emotional cheating.

A % of the work population has a "work boyfriend" or "work girlfriend."

I’ve had this since 2007. If I think about it completely objectively it’s sort of weird. But no one involved (spouses, their parents, and our kids included) actually thinks it is.
