If I still had a vote … and I am probably the only person posting in this thread who has actually cast a Hall of Fame vote … I’d have probably voted for Belle when he was on the ballot. He’s at the mercy of the various committees right now which means there is zero chance of him ever getting in.

I just think it’s silly to blame the writers or the stat geeks or any other nefarious external forces for his absence.

Albert Belle is 100% responsible for his predicament.

As far as Trout … the guy hasn’t displayed Hall of Fame chops in going on five years now. IMO if he doesn’t recapture some of that, if he has a long, average closing kick to his career, he might get in at the end of the day but he isn’t going to be the practically unanimous pick that folks are expecting.

And I wonder how really driven the guy is at this point. He needs to get out of Anaheim and to a team where his teammates will kick him in the arse a little, and he needs to show that by God he wants a ring, not just the stats.

Over the past 5 years, Trout has the highest OPS in baseball amongst qualified hitters. He has definitely dealt with some injuries, but still awesome when healthy. He is going to cruise into the Hall of Fame.

Please explain. Also below is by far my favorite Belle moment. Dude gets hit by a high inside fastball and his response to the pitcher and catcher and umpire was he wasn’t going anywhere and to throw the ball over the plate.
