I don’t see it. Do you think the goal is for farmers to give all they product away for pennies so you can get it for cheap? Who wants to work and not get what they deserve out of it?

f that’s the case why don’t more people farm? I mean who wouldn’t want to rich? You’re such an ignorant dumbass. If you really had family that farmed you would understand what it takes and how hard it is. Yeah sometimes we make a lot of money and sometimes we lose a lot of money. Last time I checked making a living wasn’t illegal

No one is arguing it’s easy, but the poor-mouthing is rampant.

It’s a very difficult industry to get into now because of the scale of most farms. You can’t just start farming out of your backyard because of the capital requirements to get started. Like I said earlier, there are no poor farmers left.

Land and equipment costs are completely prohibitive now

Now that you say that, I've never met one either.

Who bad mouths? The same people go on local tv and complain and badmouth. They are in the minority. Most farmers love what they are doing and understand the risk. Don’t listen to one thing and lump us all in the same category

This show is actually incredible

It is a very good show. Clarkson really gets into farming and not just filming silly stuff -- and gets a big dose of government red tape.

I started with nothing to my name took out a loan and slowly worked my way up to where I am today. If that makes me rich idk what to tell you I’m far from it. Most of y’all would crack under the amount of stress from crop loans to actual crop in the fields.

Congratulations. Seriously. I’m not taking that way from you by saying farmers aren’t poor.

How much land do you own? How much do you farm?

I'm in the same boat as you. Started with 100 acres when I got out of military. Now farm 4k+ acres. These boys need a 4mil dollar loan and be at the mercy of the market and mother nature to pay it back. And then be hated by the people you feed. If you want to farm you can get in. Problem is that most are too scared

Man get everything you can. Get it all. No one faults you for this. Get all the subsidies and shite you can snatch up. Just stop whining and poor mouthing all the frickin' time. Farmers and commercial fishermen never shut up about how bad they've got it.
shite, every time I'm around farmers, all they do is bitch.

Right now, I'm watching my own family rake it in by putting windmills on their land. Government subsidized windmills and they still bitch.

Farmers are like Palestinians. There's no satisfying them.

I don’t think that’s true, even in this thread.

I think people just get tired of all the woe is me talk. Both of the farmers in this thread have reminded us multiple times how hard their job is, for example.

There’s an extremely high barrier to entry into that industry which grants one the privilege to wager their livelihood on the weather, global markets, and other wildly erratic forces. You’re both right. Draw

Nice. Appreciate the honesty. I figured you were in that business with our discussions in previous crawfish threads.

Good luck this year.

Hey dipshit you need to educate yourself. Not every farmer owns their own land. We don’t have windmills in my area. I haven’t collected a subsidy in over 5 years on rice. The price of rice has been above what they pay you out on. Stop lumping all the farmer together.
