Gov. Jeff Landry on Wednesday morning described the New Orleans Police Department as a force “in shambles,” as he outlined plans to return a permanent Louisiana State Police troop to the city.
quote:
“I mean, the New Orleans Police Department is in shambles because of a federal consent decree and a federal judge,” Landry said. “We have to wrestle that away from them, and even if she gave it to us today, it would take a decade to build that police department back up.”
quote:
In the meantime, Landry said he would push state lawmakers, at a special legislative session on crime, to “put in place the funding mechanism to get that [State Police] troop up and running.” The special session is slated to start Feb. 19, Landry said.
quote:
Plans for Troop Nola include a contingent of 40 troopers, sources familiar with the planning say. It would mark the first permanent LSP troop in New Orleans since Troop N, a locally funded troop that policed in and around the French Quarter, disbanded in 2020.
Unlike that operation, which was funded locally, Landry suggested that Troop Nola would operate citywide.
“That troop is not going to be just centered in the French Quarter. This is very important. We’re not here just to protect the French Quarter, ok? We’re here to protect the city and one of the greatest assets this state has,” he said.
Landry gave no timetable on the launch of Troop Nola, saying he was waiting on a plan from LSP Superintendent Robert Hodges.

Louisiana State Troopers didn't sign up to be de facto NOPD when they joined the force. Sending LSP Troopers to NOLA, except for the special Mardi Gras Detail, is just plain stupid.

Thank Mitch Landrieu. He was under the impression that the feds would give the NOPD $$$$$ for the consent decree. The feds said noooooooo. You pony up New Orleans. What a dip shite he is.

The Republican super majority we enjoy should pull their weight and put forth a bill granting the Landry the power to dissolve NO municipal government and place it directly under the state

The only issue is highway patrol really do not see the crime that urban police officer's and sheriff deputy's especially in urban areas deal with.
Uniform patrol in the old days before Antifa and all this everyone is special worked with or around undercover officers.
40 Troopers does not give you much presence to do that.
It will be a huge learning curve for some of those troopers.

That’ll take care of about three blocks of the city. If Landry is serious about changing the situation in that city we need 500 or 1,000 additional officers. That may actually do some good if they make a serious commitment to this. But 40 won’t change anything.

Troopers could make a difference if they were turned loose to crack some skulls. It would take a Wild West style approach to law enforcement to make a noticeable difference in that hell hole.

Troopers in NOLA means as many Troopers not patrolling the highways. That means more speeders, more drunk driving crashes, more dead innocents. Landry didn't think this one through - NOLA voted repeatedly for what they have. NOLA could have voted for "law and order" leadership but they didn't, so that means NOLA doesn't want Troopers there. Wait until they get into a high profile use of force incident. The people of NOLA will want to ruin the Troopers involved. Keep them out of NOLA, we want them and need them to do the jobs they signed up for - working the highways.
Has LSP increased its headcount by the numbers they plan to send to NOLA? No.

He's doing something that leftist cock sucker JBE should have done several years ago. But JBE didn't want to be called "racist," and piss off the anti-prison/anti-police anti-"New Jim Crow" constituents that helped him steal his second term.
