A BMW 3-series if it's plug-in hybrid version, otherwise a Model 3 weighs a few hundred pounds more. That's the missing context you and Obtuse1 skipped over.
The 330iX would be the most comparable ICE model. The weight difference is about 300lbs, ~7%. Doesn't really match up with the ~20% heavier claim made earlier.

Most EVs, thanks to the large battery system, weigh hundreds of pounds or more than equivalent gas vehicles.

If looking at something like an Accord which weighs around 3,300 lbs then that 20% is very realistic. EV's are simply heavier and manufacturers, in order to get the best range they can get away with advertising, use tires that optimize range at the expense of tire longevity. For performance-oriented EV's that are running soft-compound tires the treadwear is going to be much more significant. There are EV-specific tires but you won't see them with 60k or 75k mile tread life warranties.
