35 whelan with a good scope.
Easy for beginner to use and you can hunt the Primative and Modern season with same gun. Ammo easy and just all around good gun.
All the deer I've shot with mine within 125 yards never ran. My "big" rifle I've had to track, a few not far, but it's nice to pull the trigger and see them fall in there tracks.
