By May when I go every year they have moved out to the deep brush piles.

When there was grass around the La. Islands and the last stretch of bank by the dam on the Tx. side, I would have 100 fish days on a jig on Memorial Day weekend. Once the grass left, I could not catch a single fish. I miss those trips big time. Even the stroller boats disappeared.

During the spring I always keep a 5' ultra light spinning rod on the deck with a cork and jig. (Usually a Bobby Garland monkey milk)

I throw it at docks with obvious brush sticking up and natural laydowns on the bank when it "looks right".

I'll catch a few here and there, but I haven't hammered them in a long time. I'm starting to feel like I waste too much time doing that when I should be strictly bass fishing. With my electronics and new trolling motor, it's easier now it seems to bass fish in the peak of spring and mess with white perch out deep the rest of the year.
