If the executive can simply ignore wide swaths of law, why couldn't an executive simply say "F*ck it, I'm not enforcing the tax law. No one has to pay taxes anymore!".

It violates the basic idea of balance of power. At that point the executive has the power over the legislative branch. That's what made the most recent decision so rotten. It pretty much means the president can Veto congress in an unoverridable manner. He can just ignore the laws they pass.

If states still had millitias, Texas could effectively seal the border. But as it stands, Biden can nationalize the guard and that is that.

I posted on here years ago that states should enlarge their militias.

As it stands they are too small and weak to close the border.
