my best friend in jr high was big into cars (Porsches to be specific) and had a subscription to R&T, so i actually read the story long before the song came out and recognized it’s origin immediately
for those unfamiliar, the Barchetta (Italian for “little boat”) was the name given the 1949 Ferrari 166mm:
in the early 90s while my wife was in vet school at MSU, the band i was in took the time from playing Smiths and Pixies covers to learn a stripped down version of the song (guitarist was a big Alex Lifeson fan) - i thought we did a pretty fair job with it, despite the singer having to drop some of the vocal parts an octave
