That’s what looks the worse on tv, imo. Hate to shite on them because they probably fund a lot of the program, but the old heads 2-4 rows up the sideline that sit with their arms crossed, with a stern look on their face all game. It looks bad on tv. Students should probably be right there.

Even if students aren’t always that loud, they’re usually engaged standing/talking/dresses in something funny when the camera pans to them. And you mostly hear the announcers during televised games, so noise isn’t the issue for the casual fan watching from home. It’s the sideline they show most of the game that looks very low energy.
