I have crushed them in mid-February wearing a T-Shirt and shorts, and I've damn near froze to death in March wearing Columbia bibs when I couldn't buy a bite.
It's all about watching the weather and stringing together a week or more of mild/warm temps.

Yup. Overall, I have probably done better in February than March, but as you say, it's all about the stretch of temps. My one absolute best trip, and I though maybe I was dreaming, was in mid March.
