1997 era Ford Ranger had 4cyl XLT 4x4 limited edition sold in California. Bought in Jan 1997 from a guy who bought it, and decided it was way underpowered for $15,500 with 750 miles.
I used it as a daily driver.
325,000 miles sold it.
My only complaint was changing the $85 timing belt. 6 hour job. Did that 4 times. Change your fluids which were easy. Changed from Ford to aftermarket u-joints which had grease zerk’s. Really had no issues except signal switch box around steering wheel changed once.
Gas mileage wise it was a great truck. Cheap on tires.
Speed wise it was a dog.
Guys in the 4x4 club used mostly 4.0 V6.
3.0 V6 was weaker, but not a bad engine.
4.0 V6 guys blew transmissions due to heat build up in a tight area. Those trucks were a blast to drive.

The Ridgeline will need a timing belt every 85,000 miles. It will cost more than $85. But everything else avour that engine is awesome. It’s the old school Honda VTEC design that they are slowly phasing out in favor of smaller turbo motors.
