Hot water lines are hot only when hot water is running through them. My guess is that your hot water line froze if water had not been run through for a period of time.

Sink and tub in room farthest from water heater have cold water but no hot. Middle section of house has everything in working order. When I turn on both sink and tub hot water, nothing happens. When both are open and i ALSO open the cold tub faucet, the sink (while still on hot setting) starts flowing warm water, not hot. I am 99% sure hot pipes only run through attic. Washing machine is the closest thing to water heater that has hot and cold lines, hot water runs normally through there (just checked).

If I’m understanding you correctly you may have ice starting to form, you should run water or attempt to until it works normally.

The water starts to form ice and slows down, will not be hot. If you run it the water will melt the ice and open back up.

Same story, different house. I woke up to most of my house having no cold water and half the house having no hot water. We have 2 tankless heaters in the attic and one was fine.

Well, they were both fine but the supply line leading to one of them was frozen. Also had several cold water PEX lines frozen in the attic.

I put 2 space heaters in the attic and used a hair dryer on the lines I knew were frozen. I kept the faucets and showers turned on. It took a while but everything is good now. Lesson learned. I had one faucet on each side of the house have a small drip on the cold water side. Tonight I have cold and hot side trickling (not enough to kick the heat on the water heater) in several faucets throughout the house. The attic just got too cold last night so I’m hopeful this is a better prep.

your cold water is frozen yet polite. it moves to the side to let the hot water through.

Also check your screen in faucet, I thought I had a problem just a small amount of water came out, like a drip. Unscrewed the tip. And there was some brown grit stopping flow
