Our family camped at Lakewood for our vacations since 1975 and my elderly parents lived in Surfside from 2015 - 2023. Myrtle Beach isn't the family friendly place it used to be. The grand strand and surroundings are hot garbage in the busy seasons. A lot of gang activity in that area so be aware.

As someone else mentioned Murrels Inlet is nice and has many restaurants, gift shops and beautiful scenery of the marsh and is a short drive from MB. A lot of the fishing industry is out of there and there are several fresh seafood markets at Murrels Inlet.

A little further south is Pawleys Island and a few places I would recommend there are Frank's, Rustic Table and Bistro 217. There's also a cool collection of shops called the Hammock Shop Village. A drive on the island also has several historical sites and buildings that are worth seeing.

If you go north Calabash is another great little place to visit and eat. We like Beck's which is one of the original Calabash style restaurants.

There's plenty to do in and around MB so enjoy and have fun!
