This organization is not like any of the others in the NFL.

Just to make sure everyone that may not be aware is aware, Loomis is a trustee in the Benson trust.

Unlike other GMs where their job security is tied to the performance of the team and the coaches that they hired, Mickey has the cushiest job in pro sports. He has no risk associated with the Saints on the field performance.

Amazing really how a subpar GM got so lucky in the Colston year draft - one time- and what turned out to be the greatest free agent signing in pro sports history (Brees), and turned that into job security that no one in the history of the NFL has ever known.

He has imbedded himself with the Benson family to where he has ungodly amount of job security.

So do not expect the lack of “winning” to cause wholesale changes in the coaching staff. There is no urgency to do so because his job is not on the line.

Good for Mickey, but this arrangement of him being a trustee is not good if you want to see more winning and incompetent people let go if they can’t get the job done.

You should really take your emotions out of it. There are alot of things just not true in that post and a lot more things that are simply opinion being floated as facts.

I kinda look at him as the "acting" owner of the Saints. Stuck with him. It's odd though he has so much power within the organization considering he stated himself a few years he was not a football guy, but only the "money" guy.

emotional and petulant rants. For all we know, Mickey's run may be set up where he rides it out with DA, Mickey is about 2 years away from being 70. We have been fortunate to have Mickey over the past near 20 years, we've gotten a super bowl and for the most part have fielded very to pretty competitive teams and rosters year in and year out.

Loomis will leave when he decides to. The best we can hope for is a constant pipeline of good talent eval guys as asst GM's to work for him and do the heavy lifting.

Our franchise comparison are like New England, Pittsburg, and Green Bay. You know, long term winning franchises with long term stability up top. Loomis just put another winning season behind his resume. We may be pissed as fans, but no franchise would fire their GM based off of a winning season.

Also, OP threw the word "subpar" around about a GM that just became the 8th GM ever to join the 200 wins club. When you are in the company of Bill Polian, Kevin Colbert and Ozzie Newsome, you are not subpar. Loomis is going to wind up in the Hall of Fame.

I'm very much interested in how this Khai Harley situation plays out. I would hope that if they had planned on him taking over for Mickey someday that they would not let him get away. To use Mickey old line you'd rather get rid of someone a year to early rather than a year to late. Maybe it's time to apply that to Mickey (not in the sense that he would be gotten rid of) but elevate Harley to GM and Mickey could take a more behind the scenes role. Which if rumours are true that he is somehow linked to ownership through the Benson family might be the best place for him now.

If this goes poorly, the fans need to do what Carolinas fans did (which I applaud) and that is have the stadium sit empty on Sundays.

Only one thing is thicker than blood: and that is money.

It’s pretty comical the bashing Loomis takes. If fired he’d be hired pretty quickly by any team. I don’t agree with him going all in after Brees retired, i would have liked to see him hit a reset and i def don’t agree that he keep DA. But overall the guy has completely changed this franchise around. It’s like you dumb fuks forget what we were before he brought in Payton. I do get him not wanting to be the franchise that constantly fires coaches, imo not firing Allen is a mistake, but Mickey is not the problem with this org.

There's never a bash Dennis Lauscha thread. There's a bash gayle thread, bash mickey thread, bash Dennis threads, but khai hartley and jeff ireland piss 100% excellence and never get fault.

While I will not try to defend any of Loomis' recent decisions regarding Dennis Allen (really, only time will tell us the real answers here but it seems plain that promoting Allen was a mistake) it seems ludicrous to call the guy who has overseen the golden age of the Saints franchise subpar. He has been the GM since 2002, I believe.

But maybe that is just my thinking.

Did you see that Loomis is a trustee “bstaceyau19.” He can be a defacto owner. You said:

Second, Mickey Loomis is not the highest ranking person in the Saints/Pelicans organization. Dennis Lauscha is. If anyone is the "de facto" owner, it is him.

bstaceyau19, you have no real understanding of the current administration of the Saints and you sure as hell didn’t understand the dynamics of Superbowl city selection in 2014.

Mickey and Lauscha aren’t leaving the gravy train anytime soon….the only hope is Mickey steps back some.

That's how I see him, too. As OP stated, his role is unlike how any other franchise is currently operated.

its the truth, but so many here refuse to accept it

and at this point im beginning to think DA already knows he gets another 3 years to figure it out and that is why they are using this TD BS as an excuse for him to get a chance to rebuild
