My line of work is a little different and I'm a project manager who answers to a customer spending millions. We have 24 hour operations going on, so sometimes business takes place after hours for us office personnel. There's pretty much 3 levels with communication with the people who report up through me.

If it's something I absolutely need an answer, no matter the time, I make a phone call 24/7.

If it's something I'd like to know now, but it's not going to shut down operations, I'll send a text up until 9ish. If you don't answer, I can follow up tomorrow.

If it's not all that important and can definitely wait until tomorrow, you get an email or I'll remember to reach out later.
