My wife and I (40) took our kids (7 and 14 at the time) to Belize summer of 2022. Stayed in Ambergris Caye and visited Caye Caulker via a full day fishing trip a couple of times.
We flew to Belize City then hopped on a 15 min flight in a small plane to Ambergris Caye.
Stayed at a resort called Grande Caribe. Wife wanted a big resort because we were not familiar with Belize. It was a great resort with very friendly staff. Very clean. 2BR condo was over 1200 sq ft. Swim up bar, good food, etc…. It is more known for a chartered fishing location.
Beach was pretty much non existent at the resort but we rented a golf cart for our entire stay and would head over to Secret Beach for the day. About a 15 min ride. It was beautiful.
Pros:
Phenomenal food.
Very cheap once you get there.
English is main language.
USD is accepted everywhere.
Very friendly people.
Ambergris Caye is very small and easy to get around with a golf cart (it is a must).
Fishing was fantastic.
Lobster was in season.
Caye Caulker was very laid back. No motorized vehicles allowed and just a beautiful place.
Cons:
Things move very slow there so do not expect meals and general things to happen quickly. If you are one of those types that want things at your fingertips and to happen fast, just pack some patience for the trip.
It’s a beautiful place but very poor. Locals would go above and beyond to help you out. We typically do Isla Mujeres or Caribbean / Mexico AlI Inclusive but wanted to try something different. The last two times when we plan our summer trips, the kids have asked to go back. It’s a great experience. Highly recommend.

Thank you for the details! I will have to keep pushing as Belize is my #1 the others are leaning towards Costa Rica or USVI
