Different times in the program. Kelly had to set the tone early. Once the culture was in place, he could take some risks with Denver.

Early on, he had to purge.

Be fair and post the misses to. In BKs first year the entire starting secondary was made of transfers they got that year and Burns from the prior year. All of them were from Louisiana but didn’t sign with LSU coming out of HS, they were developed at other programs.

In 2022, LSU had a pass defense that ranked 32. It was the highest ranked pass defense they had since 2017.

I don't think people poo-pooing on Raymond for his last couple of years here get the cesspool Ed created after 2019.

And so what if he didn't have success at Florida. Maybe it just wasn't a good fit for him there?

I left my job after 20+ years for greener pastures and it was terrible. It wasn't until went back to a similar role that I had success again.

IMO, if he does come back, he'll pick up where he left off before it went in the crapper...

Two guys in the secondary that year here when Corey was here: Flott and Ward.

Corey recruits great players. Not sure he’s the guy to turn a bunch of the 3 stars we have now into world beaters. I’d hire him for recruiting purposes but also hire a second db coach who can get the most out of what we currently have.

I think he did a pretty good job with Jay Ward and Cordalle Flott who were not high ranked DBs.

I'm confused... you talk about fundamentals, development, and how you think CR may not be that guy. Meanwhile you post all of this on the thread that actually lists 11 guys that CR actually recruited and developed into NFL caliber DBs....

I posted the list of just guys drafted from 2017-2022. He had several more recruits transfer out in that span: Joseph, McGlothern and Ricks that are not included who are currently in the NFL (or will be drafted in McGlothern this spring).

He was here for 10 years as DB coach and people act like he was the worst coach on the planet. Everything went to shite after the 2019 season and these idiots act like it was all Corey's fault.

I'll go back further:

2013-2016: Eric Reid, Tyrann Mathieu, Tharold Simon, Jalen Collins, Rashard Robinson & Jalen Mills.

17 drafted DBs from LSU from 2013-2023
Kelvin Joseph, Dwight McGlothern and Eli Ricks are three more for transferred out. Ricks wasn't drafted but would have been had he stayed.

That's 20 DBs over 13 years if we include McGlothern in 2024 who he recruited/coached here.

People saying Raymond can’t coach technique are crazy. I guess all those NFL draft picks just coached themselves. Florida seems toxic under Napier. I don’t put that on Raymond.

He did a great job with flott. Turning him into an NFL player was one of his best jobs.

Also, it doesn't matter what we think. These young kids(especially from la) want to come to lsu to play under him.

I think too many fans are salty about CR leveraging for a raise or promotion. Also, people can't objectively separate a bad DC and/or scheme from a position coach's performance.

Pelini wasn't even showing up to ops on time while the program was falling apart. Daronte was still trying to figure out how to be a DC and Austin Armstrong should have never been named DC at Florida.

His ‘19 class was solid : Stingley, Ward and Flott with Ray Jones and Hampton not working out. After that, it fell apart. I think there was too much chasing prima donnas like Ricks all over the country and him personally chasing more money and opportunities. Combine that with the complete state of disarray with Orgeron and it was a recipe for disaster which is why instead of having solid upperclassmen CBs the last couple of years , we had a collection of portal scraps.
A focused Raymond starting with getting hometown Jaboree Antoine and concentrating in-state and natural recruiting areas (Texas, Alabama, Mississippi and occasionally Georgia/North Florida) could work.

How much of that recruiting was DBU and how much was CR?

Time at UF answers that question.
