I've always found it odd how storms all seem to dissipate near Baton Rouge. I suspected it was the chemical plants but never looked it up until now.
That was the most vague article.

What about Pensacola?
Currently in the tornado watch. Wouldn’t be surprised to see some severe weather in that region overnight. Have a way to get warnings.

Where are y’all getting blown up in BR? The house here loses powers when someone sneezes wrong but we’re fine for now - 70808

Was it about 10am or so? I had to work the night before if we are talking about the same one. I was going to work late and I've never gotten in my hall and shut all of the doors other than that morning.

The gradient winds here in Tennsippibama are just getting ridiculous at this point (as they were forecasted to)

Storm chasers Reed Timmer & Brandon Copic chilling at the Walker exit on 12 ready to chase ahead of the line

So BR looks to have avoided the worst, or should we stay frosty a few more hours?
Posted on 1/8/24 at 10:05 pm to zmonsoon
Yeah the wind is nuts in bessemer. Power is flickering a little

So is BTR out of the woods?

Yeah, really the only non hurricane/tornado situation that freaked me out a bit. I thought I was about to have a tree on my house.

It has been steady at 25+, gusting to 40 since about 5:30 in north AL. Highest gust has been 44mph. The rain finally got here a little before 8.

All of sela is “out of the woods” regarding a tornado threat. the squall line is about to hit BR with heavy rain and wind.

squall line I'd just west of the river right now

Low level lapse rates are horrible. The front has really slowed too. There’s not enough propagation to get enough lift to overcome the poor low level lapse rates. Plus there’s too much low level shear with such poor low level buoyancy. The line doesn’t have a chance to deepen and intensify where it is now. Classic winter cape/shear balance issue.

The line hasn’t gotten here yet. Wait until after to let your guard down.

But it shows the line splitting and gapping South BR/AP?
