Greg Brooks Donation Fund
Updated Link for those who would like to donate to Greg and his family.
Greg Brooks
This was the most recent information I could find. I just haven't heard much about him, and was hoping things were getting better after his surgeries. He was a hell of player and dearly missed this season. I can't imagine how he played with his conditon.

Following in case anyone has news.

My primary interest is in any update on his physical condition, certainly. However, a football question. It seems that his recovery will take some time. How does this effect scholarship limits, etc. going forward? Can LSU, for instance, change his status some sort of way so that he doesn't count toward 85 scholarship players, or whatever the number is?

I would think he would not count against scholarship limits. I'm sure LSU will continue to pay his tuition and is helping with cost for the family. There was somehting about helping him with donations. I think that should be up for anyone that can help his family.
I was looking forward to watching him have a great year, and watching him in the NFL. I thought he would be a great pro.

Yes, there is a medical/retirement option that keeps them on scholarship but where it doesn't count towards the 85.
Alabama/Saban have used it a good bit to reduce numbers towards the 85.

Appreciate knowing LSU players are being cared for off the football field. Impressive!

It’s not good at all unfortunately. He still can’t talk.

Are you really this stupid?

Wish him well but guessing this was a family decision & I don’t want to jump to conclusions but that suggests the prognosis was probably fairly heavy — Did not hear a peep about him from any media (local/national/sports/otherwise) all year.
That to me implies no good news to report :/

Yup. Definitely feels like no news is bad news in this situation. Gutted for him and his family. I really hope he pulls through.

Unfortunately I think this is the case. A good friend is a retired neurosurgeon and he said from what he knows the prognosis isn’t good. It will be a very long road for him and a fight just for his life.

The last picture I saw he was still in a wheelchair

It’s disheartening to see someone like him to be struck with such a devastating medical setback. If a fine tuned athlete can have their physical health taken from them, what does that say about average people? Life is extremely fragile, so make the most of it.

You suck. Can't you be interested in his health as a person? What's wrong with you?

God bless him and his family. I pray for any good news

I think y'all are being too rough on Tarheel. After all, he did state at the beginning of his message that he was most interested in Brooks' health. And it's legitimate to wonder what happens to a player's scholarship in this kind of situation. Just asking that question doesn't mean one is making light of Brooks' tragic battle with cancer. Yes, he could have posed his question a little more articulately, but if that's a crime, then most of us would be guilty at one time or another. Fortunately, a couple of posters took the time to answer his question instead to piling on.
