When I did a rewatch I stopped after 6 and just imagined what might have happened afterwards, but since it's your first time watching you might as well finish it out. There are a couple cool moments in season 7, but season 8 is a chore at best in my opinion.

Yep, that was the Battle for Winterfell. VERY dark...literally, not so much figuratively. They re-released that episode later and lightened it up.
I actually really liked that one.

It's worth the watch just to finish the series. Of course, I'm a completionist and have hate watched many a show that ended badly (i.e. Sons of Anarchy)
SPOILERS
The battle plan made no sense considering the enemy. The Walking Dead show had better tactics.
Overall, it is obvious that they had no way to show a payoff from the years of character development.

Appreciate the advice. I’ll definitely finish it up.

No, they suck. Just make up your own ending and I promise whatever you make up, it will be better than what actually happens.

There are moments and deaths in the last two seasons that are such karmic arse kickings that you will appreciate them and replay them in your mind.
There are also a couple of cinema moments that were brilliant in the way they were filmed.

I thought season 7 was pretty decent. Arya returns to Winterfell, we get to see Casterly Rock and Highgarden, Olenna Tyrell goes out like a boss, Littlefinger gets his comeuppance, Danerys rescues Jon from the Whitewalkers....solid season!

Doing a re-watch right now. My first one since the show ended.
I'm on S3 EP2. I can't stop thinking about 1) how incredible this show is and 2) how most everything that is happening is pointless because of the ending.
I also don't get the boards hatred for Dany. Not counting the final season, she was a great character. But man while this show was going on and in the in season episode threads, she was dogged so mudh.
