Lowe's/Home Depot will outsource all that work and limit what those companies can do for their work, at least that was my experience when installing my front door and sliding glass doors. They wouldn't allow the workers to break into drywall. shite like that. I imagine countertop work is pretty annoying to work on with those stores as well. Just go to a stone/countertop company directly.

I don't mind the outsourcing thing if it makes sense.

My beef with Lowes is this: I measured my countertops. Let's say I have 20sqft. Lowes has a rate for countertops, installed. Let's say $100/sqft. My bill should be $2000 total. I don't doubt there is a hidden fee or contingency that might kick it up to $2200 or 2500.

Nope. They wanted double of (price/1sqft)*(Tot sqft). That would be $4000 in the above example. I also asked for an option of another non-contiguous counter and they threw that in the base price and refused to break it out. They also refused to show me how they got to 2x budget other than saying "there are some large piece fees and hole fees but we don't have hidden fees".

I told the lady to go pound sand. For as much as I've spent recently rehabbing this house, it sucked, and we have spent very little there after this event. Most went to Home Depot or Ace.
