we had 3 deer were shot with a 6.5 and we had to call the dog tracker for each one.
Ain’t the fault of the 6.5, assuming the Creedmoor variety.
quote:
Ole boy (the dog tracker) told me 243, 7mmx08 and the 6.5 are the 3 calibers that keep him busy.
My buddy shot a deer at 75 yards with CoreLokt 180grains out of a 300 Win Mag and we tracked it for a mile. The truth is any of those calibers are equally fine for whitetail deer within 250 yards. Using the wrong bullets and hitting in the wrong spot are the problems.
I’ve killed a shitload of deer and hogs with my little 6.5 Grendel (same bullet diameter as Creedmoor and about 200fps slower with same weight bullet) and I’ve never lost one that I shot.
