I built an AR15 in 277W for the exact reason, recoil for my kids and girls. It is now my everyday gun. It's killed them all dead and blood trails were way better than 243/7mm08.
I love carrying an AR, tote it frontwards out of the way never grabbing limbs and plenty of room for backpack or stand on your back. It is lighter and shorter than my 270, and kicks like a 410.
300 BO is too slow and will tumble and not expand at times.
6.8 SPC is what you are looking for since i'm assuming you don't reload. If you reload look at 277W (Wolverine) Mad Dawg Weapon systems.

Yes, the 300 BO is not a high velocity round, but when used properly it's still a very effective deer hunting round.
It tumbles only w/ heavy bullets at subsonic velocities. Since those bullets don't expand at subsonic velocities, tumbling is how they cause internal damage. The lighter expanding bullets at supersonic velocities expand like a typical hunting bullet and do not tumble.
