Didn't the 5.4 3 valve V8 also have this? My FIL has that engine in his f150.
He's pretty diligent about earl changes.

Yep. If someone had a 5.3 that did not have a cam phaser problem, they had a unicorn engine. The old 03 and 04 mustang cobra guys would have the phasers locked as one of the first mods to the cars.
