a few things
-ATL born and bred… no one i know has been hyped for the Falcons since the Michael Vick era. 28-3 year was a speed bump
- Blank should sell Falcons and use the money to buy the Thrashers back from Winnipeg

Blank needs to stay as far away from owning a team as possible.
And the Jets aren't moving from Winnipeg. It'll be an expansion team.

As someone who has been a Falcons fan since Tommy Nobis was still playing for them I can tell you it just ain't in the cards for them for whatever reason. I can't explain exactly why, it just ain't.
That poster that was railing about Blank isn't wrong really but the sad fact is it was even worse under the Smiths.
That 28-3 Super Bowl loss was so Atlanta and I'm doubting I'll live to see the day it changes. Pin your hopes on the Falcons, get let down. Almost as certain as death and taxes

The only "good" thing (other than sell the team) the Smiths did was to con the state of Georgia into spending a ton of public money to build the Dome.
Maybe anyone named Smith (Rankin/Taylor, Mike, Arthur) needs to stay way from the franchise.

It’s the only explanation for that curse of a franchise.
Get a great QB. It's the one common denominator that affects all NFL franchises.

Why are you laughing at that, that’s the reality. The only reason Dan Synder sold the Redskins/Football Team/Commanders was scandal. It’s the only reason Donald Stirling sold the Clippers.

It makes no sense, Allgeier doubled Robinson in carries. I know Robinson had a fumble but it’s not like this is the first game that he saw limited action

Plot twist: That "elite" skill talent turned out to be nowhere near as good as they hoped it would, particularly Pitts. He doesn't run very crisp routes and it is much, much harder to just out-athlete people in the NFL than it was at Florida. When you were picked #4 in the draft, the coach shouldn't have to scheme you open. You should get open because you're just better than the man across from you. Pitts struggles with this. IMO, route running is the #1 trait to look for in a receiver coming out of college to the NFL, and Pitts's routes are lazy and sloppy. He is also an awful, awful blocker on plays where they line him up as a traditional TE.
London is solid. He's not a gamebreaker like you'd want from the #8 pick in the draft, but he's perfectly fine.
Drafting a RB in the top 10 is stupid no matter who it is. The talent of the RB means absolutely nothing if the scheme and OL are shite.

I’ve only watched the Falcons here and there but I’ve found it hard to gauge Pitts and London in that shitty offense with Ridder or whoever else throwing them the ball. Agree on Robinson in the top 10, just not a smart way to use resources. But he is still very talented and they have him now so might as well get the most of out of it.

Plenty of elite receivers in the NFL have been productive with less than stellar QB play. Larry Fitzgerald comes to mind. Josh Gordon was another one until he started getting suspended. When you take a guy #4 overall, that is the expectation.
The biggest problem with this offense is zero big play ability. They'll pop a 40 yard pass once every few games or so, but defenses generally have absolutely nothing to fear downfield and can squat on anything 20 yards and in. When you can't generate explosive plays, it is nearly impossible to move the ball consistently in the NFL. Their most explosive playmaker is a RB. The problem is the explosive plays in the NFL come on the perimeter, not out of the backfield. Front sevens are too athletic at this level for a RB to be a consistent big play threat.

Blank is definitely a really bad owner, he has just avoided that designation because he avoids scandals, is generally a nice person, and made hot dogs $2.
They refuse to build the team correctly and everyone is dumbfounded when it doesn’t work out. Mccay needs to be fired and whoever is signing off on these absurd first rd draft picks needs to go to. We have totally wasted 3 seasons of rebuild with bad drafts. It is going to be a long time until the team is relevant again.
ETa the only positive is the division is absolute dogshit and all 4 teams really have no immediate path forward to success

Blank is a bad owner in the context of team operations, he's great at making money thanks to focusing on MBS.

Maybe but he did have 1000 yds receiving his rookie year. Coaching and development is also allowed if there’s holes in his game.

Maybe more a product of terrible QB play. Also points to the shitty organization if you’re taking WR that high with zero plan at QB, take lineman take defense instead

I agree with that but if you’re gonna do it, why not use him? It would be one thing if he wasn’t preforming but he’s been really good on the efficiency metrics most of these season. Complete waste to give 30+ yo Cordelle Patterson rushing attempts. At least the Panthers used McCaffery and the Giants used Barkley. I would not have taken him there I wonder whose decision it was, back to the point of a shitty overall organization

Lot of empty yards in games where they were getting their doors blown off. He had a grand total of one touchdown that season. He has five for his career.
He averaged 4 catches for 60 yards in that rookie season. Not bad, but underwhelming for the #4 overall pick.

No argument here. I wanted Chase or Sewell when they took Pitts and Jalen Carter or Broderick Jones when they took Bijan Robinson.

Again, no argument here.

They were going to foolishly try and milk a few years out of an obviously washed up Matt Ryan, and then dipshit Blank got all up in his feelings and told the front office to make a push for Deshaun Watson. That backfired, Ryan asked for a trade, and here we are.

My neighborhood is built on the Smith's old hunting land. That's about the only "good" thing I can say about that family.

I disagree with this, Christian McCaffery and Austin Ekeler are pretty explosive and like those guy Robinson can catch. Now it would take a little imagination on offense to try and get him the ball in space. Look at the TD Patterson had yesterday, why aren’t they running stuff like that with Robinson? Is it a case of the coach didn’t want him and the GM or worse the owner forced the pick? Does BR not give 150% in practice. The “migraines” or whatever caused him to miss that game, has that cropped up in practice and it pisses the coach off? Makes no sense to me to split time

They need to get Fields. I think he'll do great playing in a dome
Posted on 12/18/23 at 5:08 pm to RLDSC FAN
Ryan Pace is the assistant GM for the Falcons. He was Chicago's GM and he drafted Fields. So there is a connection there.
