Same can be said for government, the legal system, marriage, and probably several other pillars of western civilization.
It’s probably not a good idea to just throw institutions and frameworks completely in the trash can when they don’t always work quite right.
I don't disagree with you. Again, I don't call religion a cancer.
With that said, I'm no more inclined to call a person a moron because they say religion is a cancer any more than I would call them a moron for calling democracy a cancer. I can disagree with them and consider their position overly simplified to the point of error while still understanding where they are coming from.

At least in my bubble, atheists tend to bring up religion way more than the Christians I know.

Observation bias. I imagine you assume everyone you meet is a Christian until shown otherwise. Which means you mistake every silent atheist to actually be a silent Christian. Which means that you observe every atheist as being pushy.

How did Yeshua handle those disciples who turned from him and followed a different God or placed their faith in no God at all?
I don't recall to many situations like that. He certainly placed alot of emphasis on one's actions over their words, with mercy, justice and God's righteousness being paramount.
I suspect these family members actions may not line up with a followed of Jesus in the first place and thus to judge them as Christian is a exercise in futility.

Typical religious hypocrites. Religion is a cancer on the human race. It keeps you in spiritual bondage.
I am an agnostic who leans toward atheism...I have no proof there is or isn't a god but I lean toward there not being. I am not arrogant enough, however, to say I am right and everyone else is wrong as believers are.
I am pretty glad that the majority of mankind needs the idea that there is the slightest chance that their misdeeds against others may come back to bike them in the arse. If you look at what believers will do to one another and to those who do not beleive it is scary to imagine what they might get up to if they did not have the fear that, however infinite the possibility, their misdeed will require a reckoning someday. Most people are not made of the moral and ethical "stuff" that would allow them to act like a civilized human being if it weren't for someone watching and judging them. Yes, it certainly impedes progress and is at times used to justify heinous acts but the alternative is the same ignorant people doing what they want without any fear of payment.

I would be more concerned about why they are changing rather than the fact they are. Parental input on religion is important. Push too hard, they revolt. Be absent, and they stray. Being a parent is not easy.
I would not disown them. I hope my offspring go forth and do good things and make the world better.

Any religion that supports cutting off family members simply for believing something different is not a religion, it’s a cult.
All religions are cults by definition...

You should never feel that way. Our responsibility first and foremost is to love the Lord our God with all of our heart and with all our soul and with all our mind. As commanded by Jesus Himself in Matthew 22:37.
Our children have the same free will as we have as painful as it may be it's not your failure.
Wise words and well said my friend. I'll remember that

One of these things is not like the other. And neither choice has to be long term. Religious beliefs evolve.
Shouldn’t your kids be given a more loving commitment?

I'm talking about known atheist and known Christians I work with, live near, or family. I don't talk religion much, have more on here than I have anywhere else in public in probably the last year, aside from home. Co-workers know to stay away from me regarding the topic b/c they know I'm not interested in their opinions, but the atheists are the main one's who push it on me We have 2 atheists in our families and they are always the one's who bring it up at holidays. I'm only speaking of my bubble though, obviously everyone else's is different.
I'll listen to people, as I said earlier about my atheists neighbor (great guy) he just constantly talks about it. I just shake my head and change the subject. Other people's opinions on religion or lack there of serve no interests to me. It should, as a Christian, but it doesn't. Outside of the occasional TD thread I involve myself in. I don't push my views on others either.

Amazing how you can't see what secularist values have done to our society. Yeah, there are some painful and destructive elements of Abrahamic religion, some more than others (like Islam), but like most anti-religious and irreligious you routinely fail to recognize how much those religions, most especially Christianity, developed all of the western world.
Atheists and secularists have yet to develop a single philosophical framework that people can follow that promotes community and sacrifice.
The most notable element of secularism and atheism is its cultivation of material worth (love of money and eugenics) over all (because there's no such thing as spiritual).
The western world was developed despite Christianity's attempts to stomp our or slow that development. Thankfully because there have never been any true christian believers, merely people who paid lip service to it while getting on with their lives. A true believer will fly a plane into a building. Very few Christians have ever held that level of belief...thank goodness.

Christianity frees you from bondage. You think you are free but you are a slave to your personal desires which ultimately cannot produce long term happiness. True freedom is the ability to kill our ego which enslaves us all.
That may well be the case for you and your demons. Some of us have none and are perfectly free and happy.
