In my saddle. Oaks to the north and south, cutover to the east, and a thicket to the west. Killed a little 7pt slipping out the cutover Tuesday evening. Hopefully his paw comes cruising by looking for does this morning. They should be rutting good up here. Took vacation all week to hunt the rut here so hopefully I can get a nice one before Sunday. Good luck everyone!

First hunt since thanksgiving weekend and probably my last of the calendar year.

So far one little deer cruised by
Right now I have a pileated woodpecker on one side of me, while a kingfisher is eating a big minnow or tadpole. Both are roughly 6-7 yards from me.
It’s much nicer to be watching nature than wires today.

What part of area 1 would they be rutting right now? Seems awfully early.

Duck #6 splashed down 11 minutes after go time. Mostly grays, one widgeon, and an a-hole ringneck that fooled me by flying with a gray.

Southern part of Morehouse parish. They started making scrapes right before thanksgiving. Typically chasing this week.

Where at in Area 4 are you? When do y’all normally see rut there? I’m just south of Centreville and usually don’t see them at it till near end of Dec.

I’m a lil ways from you if that’s when you see it then that’s when you need to hunt. I started logging sightings and when we killed mature deer about 10yrs ago and our majic day is dec18 till January 30th.

NP ,, go back and look at every pic or when you killed mature deer keep track of them. I’m not talking about basket rack 2yr olds that walk around eating in food plots in November I’m talking about mature deer even six points there’s about a 2 week window when you can kill them and it’s the same every year don’t get complacent because the weather is wrong or so and so ain’t seeing any. Once you dial it in then sit from daylight till 11 and try to get back on stand for 2

Late post, but closed out my trip with a bang. Took another slick six cull, and then a fat Javelina. Much better hunt than the what the shitty conditions would have suggested.
