Flu shots roll out in September/October. Flu outbreaks happen in December/january. Then 30,000-40,000 people die from “the flu”. You do the math.

Besides, what does winter have to do with a virus? Does it just magically fall from the sky at certain temperatures? And what temperature is that since temperatures drastically range depending on the region you’re in.

Our tough-as-nails family doctor said get the flu vaccine and skip the COVID vaccine this season.

Flu has been going around. For those who got the vaccine, has it been protective thus far? In other words, did they predict the most virulent/prominent strains to include in the vaccine this year?

Supposed to be working well this year thanks to a late tweak based off of the end of the Southern Hemisphere's season. It knocked out one of my direct reports for a week. Said it was the worst he's ever felt and second place wasn't real close.

I am sure the doc is correct but seems everybody around has the flu or some other respiratory illness

It's not a flu vaccine really (technically it is, but not like a polio vaccine). It helps you fight it off quicker IF you get a strain that was included in that year's shot.

And yes, I got the flu after the flu shot this year and it was 12 hours of a very slight symptoms then gone. Worth it. I've had the flu without the shot and one strain that wasn't included in the shot, and I found out quickly that the flu fricking destroys me for 48 hours. Bed ridden.

My kids are little germ infested snot balls.

ETA:

My doctor is pretty anti-COVID shot these days and he's gungho about the flu shot. I trust him very much.

Cold weather means more people gathering inside as opposed to outside. The OT used to be a good resource to gather a good sample of anecdotal data such as this, but Covid must have dropped the collective IQ by 30 points.

Flu vaccine uptake is slightly over 38% for both adults and children.

Flu vaccine efficacy for 2022 was 14%.

Don’t expect 2023 to be much better. If it hits 25% we got lucky.

Not sure what percentage but it's predicted off of flu in Australia because their winter is opposite. Seems like Flu is early this year.

So what you are asking is did they guess right and vaccinate for the flu that has become dominant right?

Do you really think Big pharma is telling a family practice doc in Louisiana what to say?

My kid has the flu. I had the flu shot a month ago. Was hoping for some anecdotal evidence if flu shot this year is effective. All responses except two or so have been unhelpful

I don't know for sure but it's worth asking.

I'd also like the know why babies are recommended to take the hep-b vaxx?

I'm admitting flu was chalked up as COVID so hospitals and states can get their COVID grift on from the feds.
