If obese, you need to be in construction or a farmer

quote:

Obese people in white collar jobs earn significantly less than their slimmer counterparts, figures show.

An analysis of US Bureau of Labor Statistics found that men with a college degree and a BMI over 30 earned five percent less than their peers with a healthy weight.

The difference was even greater among women, with obese and higher educated women making 12 percent less than their slim colleagues.

quote:

In addition to looking at men with bachelor's degrees, they compared men who had more advanced degrees.

When researchers compared men with graduate degrees, those who were obese earned 14 percent less.

Women face a similar fate, but the margins were larger. Obese women with bachelor’s degrees earned 12 percent less than counterparts and those with graduate degrees earned 19 percent less.

quote:

Obese workers in healthcare can expect to earn 11 percent less than slimmer colleagues and obese employees in management roles earn nine percent less.

However, the opposite is true for workers in construction and agriculture, which see obese workers making more than people with normal BMIs.

Nearly 42 percent of adults in the US are considered obese — having a body mass index (BMI) of 30 or above, or the rough equivalent of someone who is 5’9” weighing 203 or more lbs.

I should have been fat instead of good looking, at least then I'd have an excuse for being broke.

Obese people tend to lack the discipline, self control, and energy that it takes to be successful.

This is probably the truth here. I know there are some notable outliers, but most successful people that I know keep up with themselves and their appearance.

Not sure what "construction" sites they have been on, but in my 30+ years of working industrial construction projects there is not alot of obese people. Overwieght maybe, but not obese. Too much climbing, walking, and on your feet 10-12 hrs a day.

We all know that there is a weight limit for airline stewardesses due to the limited space for walking in the aisle.
There needs to be a limit for Starbucks. I often see 4 obese girls at my SB working the same shift and they cannot pass each other behind the counter. The machinery and cabinets required cannot be moved so it just results in very slow service.

Causation v. Correlation is strong in this one. I mean, it’s probably a vicious cycle/circle (if you’ll pardon the rotund pun).

As i am sitting here eating steak and cauliflower rice.

Thats about right though, we use the most energy fighting off their fat girl advances. So we deserve more pay.

Fat people don't have their shite together and fit people do?

Shocker.

Of course, I bet that's glossed right over.

What is “obese” may not conform to your perceptions. Think of that former high school linebacker who is now a plant operator who is 6ft tall, 225 lbs, who can bench 350 and squat 450 still, who can run a 6 minute mile. That person is “obese”.

Generally you won’t find an overwhelming amount of sissy boy weaklings working industrial and construction type jobs. What the govt considers obese doesn’t account for muscle mass.

It’s the problem with BMI. If you have a lot of muscle you can have a bmi that would indicate obesity, even tho.

I would also like to know if they accounted for stage in career. If more of us are fatter younger, you can’t really compare an entry level obese person to a middle career or later traditionally slimmer age group.

Maybe the skinny ones are more focused on things that matter, and are better at controlling their base desires..thus better employees.
