The problem is not SEC bias. The problem has been the reluctance for the powers that be to move on from the old school bowl system and give us a real playoff.

If there are 5 Power 5 Conferences and only 4 CFP spots, that already starts you from a place of leaving conference champ out. What if all 5 were undefeated? Someone would still be left out without an opportunity to prove themselves on the field. It is why it is good that we move to a 12-team playoff next year.

But that didn't happen.

There’s still going to be controversy. When it moved to 4 people said “well number 5 doesn’t really have an argument to be number 1 anyway” while ignoring that they don’t need an argument to be 1, they just need an argument to be 4.

Every time it expands you exponentially increase the number of teams with a case to be in. But it will be a made for TV event and people will lap it up.

The SEC "champ" lost a game, the ACC Champ did not.

But THEY’RE NOT. FSU got screwed because committee didn’t think their QB could handle it.

The Committee claimed they wanted the 4 best teams, but put Washington in instead of UGA and had Michigan at #1. Ohio State is also better than Washington. Conference championships and records matter. There has to be some level of system here. With USC in 2003 they lost a game. FSU did everything that was asked.

They flat out lied. They thought FSU would be a dud because they didn’t think their 2nd string could handle it.

Undefeated doesn’t matter if you’re not a top four team. If Alabama lost SEC Georgia would be in. Florida State would still be out. Note that Florida State #5 and Georgia #6. They play in Orange Bowl and Georgia is 14 point favorite. Rankings skewed.

FSU has no one to blame but themselves. Their athletic director voted “NO” to expanding the amount of teams in the playoffs

when you have 3 undefeated conference champs and two 1 loss conference champs common sense is you take the team that beat the other 1 loss conference champs on its home field by double digits. Problem solved.

If anyone was still against the playoff expansion, then Sunday's results had to change their mind.

FSU got screwed. If that was Clemson and Dabo, Saban and Finebaum would be crying at home right now. Thay just didn't want FSU in over Bama.

This is a media national championship, not a NCAA national championship, that’s owned by ESPN and the conferences.

This controversy was intentionally created to sell their product and their new investment as they roll out the SEC 2024 contract. It’s all about maximizing viewership. Here is the number of games by conference that had 4MM or more viewers this year:

quote:

Appearances by conference (2024 alignment):

1. SEC -- 18
2. Big Ten -- 13
3. ACC -- 7
4. Big 12 -- 6
5. American, Mountain West -- 1

They weren’t going to leave the SEC out and potentially take a hit in viewership. Instead they create controversy and bring in more viewers that will now watch in hope to see AL gets their arse kicked. AL was in four of the top 25 viewed games this year which included their game against South FL.

Follow the money and it will explain the decision making process.

Playoff expansion with a selection committee is insanity and the mouth breathers who continually yell for it have zero common sense. None. Zero. Zilch. Nada.
