Their is controversy when the march madness brackets are announced too. But the difference is, its alot harder to feel sorry for teams the further you go down the list.

Exactly!

Any number of teams involved between 9 and 16 requires a 4 week schedule.

By, including 16 instead of 15, 14 …. More teams are given a shot without extending the time required to complete the series.

Regardless if they complain about getting left out no one is really going to care if say the 17th ranked team doesn’t get an invite.

On a different note, the argument regarding college football should do byes because the NFL does it really isn’t relevant.

Unlike NCAAF the NFL in no way shape or form uses a popularity contest based system to seed its playoff contenders. It’s ?? based on their win loss record.

Conference champions get the top seeds, runners up the next seeds and wildcards the lowest. In addition, the NFL bases it’s tie breakers on a strictly defined priority list.

Another thing to consider is the NFL includes close to half its teams in the playoffs. The NCAA includes maybe 2 or 3%?

So in reality what the NFL does isn’t translatable to the NCAA.
