Yes and no. Xbox Series S and X rely on their SSDs to transfer data extremely fast compared to traditional HDDs. Seagate has one external SSD built specifically to Xbox specs to optimize gameplay.
Faster data transfer = fast game play = shorter loading times. HDD are cheaper but transfer data slower. Inverse is true that SSDs are more expensive but will move data faster.
If your child plays single player games, keep them on the external HDD if that’s what you have.
I would suggest ponying up for the Xbox Series X. You can delete old games then redownload if you have to. You can also buy physical game copies if that matters.
