Oklahoma State's problem in 2011 is that they were Oklahoma STATE.

Had they been Oklahoma or Texas, they would have played LSU.

Again, college football is not a real competition, it is a pageant where the rules change annually for the benefit of the Tier 1 programs/media darlings.

Remember, 2011 was the last year the slogan "Every Game Counts" was used. In fact, that slogan was immediately removed after a Tier 2 program (LSU) won the "Game of the Century" in Bama's backyard. That wasn't supposed to happen. When it did, CFB again changed the criteria.

And that results in the best recruits going to said Tier 1 programs, making them better teams anyways. The lower tier you are, the harder it is to go undefeated or even have 1 loss. Plus the fact that you have to be perfect while the anointed teams get more leeway. It's a self-fulfilling prophecy perpetuated by the sports media.

This is absolutely on point. There are unwritten rankings in college football. Over time, some changes in the rankings are possible but it takes sustained success or failure. This year wasnt an SEC > ACC thing. Mississippi State would not have gotten in all else being equal to Alabama's season this year.

Alabama is #1 in the unwritten rankings. They are much higher than Florida State. They had to get in. Texas is also higher in the unwritten rankings than FSU, but lower than Alabama. However, Texas had to get in because they beat Alabama this year.

Florida State ranks higher than Washington in the unwritten rankings, but Washington didnt have the injury that could be used as an escape clause. FSU did, so they decided to use that clause.

Rankings each week mean nothing with the committee. The last week, they look at the unwritten rankings and decide which 4 they want in, then figure out how to get those teams in by picking and choosing which criteria matter that day. Its complete bullshite and, silly as it sounds, unAmerican. Everyone is not created equal in power 5 College football.

If its Auburn thats a 1-loss conference champ, FSU is in. If its Oklahoma State thats a 1-loss conference champ, FSU is in.
