re: The top seeds in the CFP will rightfully complain about not getting a home game.

They need to get fricking rid of the bowl games. They suck and no one gives a shite about them.
Guess you hate football?

The top 4 don't play their first game at home? The champ would play 3 neutral site games? that would be stupid
It’s even worse than that. To get the bye you will have to win a CCG. So you have to plan an extra game at a neutral site to get a bye, while some team will sit home and rest and get a home playoff game

Conference championship games are gonna go away. Everyone's gonna try to avoid them to earn that playoff home game money. You just get your bye a week earlier.
The byes don't even really matter from a rest perspective because I assume they're still gonna have a month layoff before the playoffs

I thought they would play a home game after the bye for the Final 8 and then the Final 4 would go to the bowl games?

scrap the bowls. let higher seeds host playoff games through the semi-finals. then alternate the championship game between College Station and Nashville so that you can always assure it being a neutral site game.

ALL games should be at neutral sites just like the NCAA MBB Ty. Playing a home game is too much of an advantage, IMO, plus it opens up games to horrible snow/blizzard conditions.

It’s so they can adequately share revenues amongst both teams. You would have to convince all teams to sign a contract that splits ticket sales and concessions amongst both teams playing, the home team shouldn’t keep all the profits of a playoff game

That would be workable and I think all teams would agree. The home game would be the main attraction.

Huh? I think they should get the bye AND a home game, just like the top seeds in the NFC and the AFC.
You make it sound like the higher seeds don't have an advantage. They do. They have to play one less game. If you are going to say this, then why not have the national championship game be a home game as well?

In theory the top 4 seeds would "miss" a home game, but the amount of money each team would get from the neutral site bowl games would be vastly to superior to what they would get from hosting one extra home game.

Because it’s simply following the precedent of the Super Bowl where the championship game is a “spectacle” at a neutral site. I’m not sure what’s so hard to understand about that. It’s not rocket science.

You're right, it's not rocket science. The college post season has never been the same as the NFL, I'm not sure what is so hard to understand about that. Just like they don't group teams the same way the NFL does.

My understanding is that everything after the play-in round is neutral site “bowl games.”
This is the most nonsensical part to me. Teams in the championship game will have played in THREE bowl games, plus probably their CCG most years. Two bowls is already overkill imo.
It’d be as close to perfect as it could get if the current format was exactly the same, then just add two earlier rounds at the higher seeded team’s home stadium. The campus atmosphere is what makes college football so unique, I hate that we keep finding ways to take it away.

You think a team would rather play an extra home game over getting a bye week?
From a purely financial standpoint, yes.
The home teams in the first round of the playoffs are going to get an extra sold out home game. That equals a few million extra dollars in profit those teams with a bye playing at a neutral site (presumably) won't get...unless there is an agreement were all revenue generated in the playoffs is shared equally among the 12 teams.
Also, the bye teams playing a "bowl game" will have to incur significantly greater expense traveling to neutral site games rather than just playing a home game on campus.
IMO, the "bowl games" after the first round will start to dwindle to just maybe the final Four (semi-finals) being neutral sites. Initially, they will try to keep "bowl game" for tradition purposes. That will go away after a few years.

They should but they are cash cows, especially the SECCG

3 straight neutral sight games is fricking stupid (would be 4 if you include conference championship games)
Talk about pricing out the average fan

Give me 16 teams.
All conference champions get a home game in the first round except for the lowest ranked conference champion (assuming next year that the PAC 12/Mountain West merger happens so there’s only 9 total conferences). That way, your champs all get home games, and your at-larges have to travel. While I doubt the G5 teams would realistically have a chance, it would be great exposure for their schools to get playoff games on their campus.
Imagine:
Georgia hosts Liberty
Michigan hosts Ole Miss
Florida St hosts Penn St
Okie St hosts Oregon
Tulane hosts Texas
Toledo hosts Ohio St
UNLV hosts Washington
Troy hosts Alabama

Football is a game meant for the elements. I like the higher seed getting home games.

That was before the playoffs. Now it is much more like the nfl than it was during the bowl era
