I always wonder how players feel when they hear Calling Baton Rouge or Dixieland Delight (in Bama’s case). They weren’t born when the songs were written and I can’t imagine more than a very few, if any, would ever listen to either song if they weren’t played at home games. I imagine most players for both schools are probably thinking “I hate this shite” every time those songs are played.

I hate Bama, but I love the tradition of fans getting rowdy and belting out a song like that. Calling Baton Rouge, Dixieland Delight, I Won’t Back Down — it’s all great and part of what makes college football special. Just appreciate it for what it is.

Every song our band plays was created before the players were born, too. You’ve been thinking those songs are played for the players? News flash, they most definitely are not. The songs are played for the fans. The fans in turn get excited and are having more fun, which translates to them cheering for the players. That is all the players care about from those songs.

I mean sure, some of them probably do. But then again, they’re not created for the players.
