Your MIL went to Italy and didn't like the Italian food? And this is what you're basing your first international vacation on...If you don't like Italian food in Italy, international travel may not be for you.

To be honest, many Americans have the thought that ordering spaghetti in Italy will be like back in America. Noodles drenched in Bolognaise sauce. It is not like 'Chef Boy-R-Dee'. Food is good; you have to understand Italian cuisine sometimes.
Food wise, Italy is one of my favorites. Also, their gelato is fantastic!
Don't be afraid to go there, because MIL had her experience. Too much history and the people are nice.
