I don’t think you ever saw Deuce play a game if you are suggesting that Ingram was in any way better than him. With All due respect to Ingram. He was definitely solid.

I have seen every running back the Saints have had since Michael Strachan.

Deuce and Ingram were very similar backs to me, I just think Mark was a little bit better but I could easily see someone flipping that. Ingram had the benefit of playing in the Sean Payton/Drew Brees era for the bulk of his Saints career. And since these assessments are always really subjective, I have no issues if someone thinks Duece/Thomas was better.

I think maybe you could make a good case for Pierre Thomas moving into the top two. He was never flashy but just put up rock-solid numbers his whole career. But he also benefitted from playing exclusively during the Payton/Brees era.

All 4 were great players for the Saints.

I don’t know if he’s the best from a pure talent/production standpoint considering the blessing of guys we’ve had since (Kamara, Ingram, even Bush has talent argument)….but Deuce was a beast. He was that dude when I first was old enough to really watch football and he’s part of the reason I love the Saints so deeply.

Someone else said it earlier, he was from a different era as well. Not to sound like an old man yelling at clouds, but he was one of the last true -running- backs. His job was to take a handoff, put his head down, and run over someone. And he was damn good at it.
